CHRISTMAS RADIO!

Back when the local radio stations started going All Christmas in 2002 or 2003, I was amazed at this. I really enjoy Christmas music, but somehow that format has lost its way. You see, many of the radio stations are owned by conglomerates like Clear Channel Worldwide, Greater Media or CBS. And I've found that the same 150 to 200 songs are played ad nauseaum. I mean, hearing "I Want A Hippapotamus For Christmas" 3 times a day on one radio station and "Dominick The Donkey" 5 times on another can ruin your nerves. Thanks be to God for internet services like Live365 and Pandora, as well as channels such as The Christmas Radio Network and Christmas Vinyl. Because it's on these areas that you'll find the largest variety of Christmas music. And that includes songs that are no longer played on the radio, especially at Christmas. Nobody's heard Motovani's version of "The Skater's Waltz" in years, or "O Bambino" by the New Christy Minstrels since the beautiful music genre dried up in the 1970s and 1980s. I know that Bob Bittner still plays that kind of music on WJIB-AM 740 here in Boston, hearing Mariah Carey sing "All I Want For Christmas Is You" on WODS-FM every 4 to 6 hours can drive you nets! That's why I recommend everyone who has an internet connection at home or work(or on your cellphone, Ipod or tablet) to check out these Christmas channels, where you'll find a variety of great music that your local "Christmas" radio staiton won't play anymore. And in the week between Christmas and New Year's when the stations have gone back to their regular format, you'll be able to keep the spirit of the holiday going. Here are some of the links I suggest trying these next couple of weeks: http://www.SoundsOfChristmas.com http://www.christmasradionetwork.com http://www.accuholidays.com http://www.pandora.com Merry Christmas and Happy Listening to all!

O HOLY NIGHT!

Did you know that there's a very special song that's based on a true incident?  During the Franco-Prussian War, a Christmas Eve battle was stopped when a French soldier climbed out of his trench and sang "O Holy Night!"  A silence settled over the battlefield as soldiers on both sides listened.  And when the French soldier finished, a German soldier answered back with a German Christmas song.  For a few short moments, Christmas silenced the guns.
Adolph Adam wrote this Christmas carol in the 19th. century, and it has been sung ever since!  In French speaking countries, the carol is played at Midnight on Christmas Eve, just before the Midnight Mass begins.  In some Churches in Montreal, it's the opening hymn of Midnight Mass!  Popular versions of this song include those by Luciano Pavarotti(who sings it in English & French), Johnny Mathis, Celine Dion and Josh Groban.

That's the first carol.  The second one will be coming up soon.

WHOOPS!

Looks like our friends at MySpace won't let me save it here.

WELCOME TO CHRISTMAS MUSIC PAST, PRESENT AND FUTURE!

Hello, I'm Richard Clifford!  And I want to welcome you all to my Christmas Music blog.  This blog shares with you all your favorite Christmas music from all ages.  I was trying to save a song, but I don't think that this blog will accept embedded files.  But we'll try our best to get it right.
